Celebrate AMERICA at Antietam!
This year marks the 21st Anniversary of the Salute to Independence concert and fireworks at Antietam National Battlefield. The free event takes place on Saturday, July 1, 2006. The Maryland Symphony Orchestra will present a patriotic concert starting at 7:30 p.m. The evening's program will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display by Zambelli Internationale.
Concertgoers are reminded to wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes, bring wet weather gear and lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. Canopies and beach umbrellas are permitted until the concert begins. Attendees may bring picnic dinners and drinks into the park. Charcoal grills are not allowed. Food and souvenir concessions and portable restrooms, including handicapped-accessible facilities, are available on the premises.
This is a popular event at Antietam, drawing crowds of close to 30,000 people each year. For many, the Salute to Independence has become a "can't-miss" annual tradition thanks to the unrivaled combination of great music, fantastic fireworks and beautiful setting of Antietam National Battlefield.
Start or continue your own tradition by joining us at the Salute to Independence this Saturday, July 1!
This will be my second year volunteering at this event. I will be wearing green volunteer shirt and tan slacks. If you come out I am sure that you will see me walking around taking photographs. Be sure to say hello. I hope to see you there.
