10 Years to the Day

Today marked my return to the world of the IT help desk and technical support. It was ten years ago today that I started my IT in tech support working for Claritas, Inc. in Arlington, VA. So, as of this morning at eight AM, I am no longer a proud member of the 4.5% and I am no longer a "house husband," which I greatly enjoyed being! I am now gainfully employeed and working for T. Rowe Price, which is sixteen point five miles from home. Not the shortest commute I have ever had, but it is the shortest I have had in several years. Mike's Train Hell and Micros, Inc. in Columbia, MD were a little over eight miles, but the absolute shortest would be back in the mid 1980s working for the community newspaper in Westminster, MD. That office was less than two city blocks from home, and under one hundred yards walking distance.

Anyway, today started two weeks of training, after which, I will be on the phones helping clients. Most of the day was spent covering policies and procedures. My boss took me to lunch at Red Robin, where I ate my traditional choice of mushroom swiss burger with fries and a diet Coke. I also had a tour of the HUGE campus of five buildings and the beautifully kept grounds. There is also a very nice cafeteria on the campus and multiple flat screen TVs adron the walls of same. My co-workers seem like nice people and have a sense of humor. I overheard some Star Trek and Star Wars references being made, so I have little doubt that I will fit right in. Well, I am off to help Jenne with dinner and await the arrival of Ted, who is visiting for the evening. Asta!

You'll love taking Marriottsville Road up to work, ask me about it sometime.

Congrats on the new digs. Hope this becomes a great career opportunity for you, not just another "job."
