A Bitter Sweet Trip
Monday afternoon around five PM, Jenne and I returned from visiting her family in the Dayton, Ohio area. On our way out and back we pass through Sideling Hill, which is just west of Hancock, MD. A giant slice was cut through the mountain to make way for Interstate 68, an east-west passageway. Six lanes of highway pass through this collosal cut and it is quite the site. More photos are on my Flickr site and can be seen by clicking the image at the right.
This trip to Ohio was bitter-sweet. Jenne's Uncle Elgar recently became very ill and what was originally thought to be kidney failure turned out to be
Multiple Myeloma - a cancer of the plasma cell. Elgar is eighty-five and until this struck, he was going strong farming, canning, fishing and making the best homemade vanilla ice cream... EVER! He is being treated with a lrge cocktail of medications and is in the best care of doctors andmore importantly family and friends. We are both very glad that we got to see Elgar and much of Jenne's family. We also made a couple of new friends during our visit. We will continue to stay in close contact with family and monitor the ever changing situation. If you are one of my many readers that prays, I would ask that you include Jenne's uncle and the family in your prayers. Thanks.
More photos from the recent Ohio trip coming soon.

Good luck to Uncle Elgar! Its hard when those old guys who seem like they are going to go on forever suddenly get sick, worse, I think than when it's somebody younger. When somebody's 85 years old you feel that nothing can happen to them and then something does. But I wish him all the best in dealing with his illness and all the best to your extended family.
