Battlestar Friday SUPER HAPPY PREQUEL EDITION 04.28.06

Some of you are probably already aware that a PREquel to the hit SciFi Channel show, Battlestar Galactica is being planned. Thanks to Mal Snay, MM & DV for the emails alerting me to this. Here are the details that we have at present.

The Sci Fi Channel will delve into the backstory of "Battlestar Galactica" with a new series that looks at the years leading up to humanity's devastation by the Cylons.

The prequel, called "Caprica," heads a list of development projects the cable network unveiled Wednesday.

"Caprica" will be set more than 50 years prior to the events of "Battlestar Galactica" and focus on the lives of two families -- the Adamas (ancestors of future Galactica commander William) and the Graystones. Humankind's Twelve Colonies are at peace and on the verge of a technological breakthrough: the first Cylon.

I think that with the success of BSG a spin-off series was inevitable. Of course I am hoping that it will be as great as BSG is, but only time will tell. “Caprica” will have a built in audience and you can bet that they will be watching with a very critical eye. I remember back to when the SciFi channel announced a re-imagined BSG based on the original from the late 1970s. I was very skeptical and said many times that the “suckage factor” was likely to be very high. You know, I had some fond memories of the original, and some not so fond memories that actually made me cringe. Such as the cylon robot that thought he was a cowboy and that was the forth episode of the original. But, as it turned out, I was greatly surprised and have loved the new BSG from the very first moments. I look forward to being able to say the same things about “Caprica”.

In other BSG news, Hasbro’s Titanium Series of 3” ships has been hitting the shelves. They have been spotted in Target, Toys R Us and White-TrashMarts. I have yet to see them.

T-Minus 24 weeks and counting until the premier of Season-3. That’s still too fracking long a wait. SO SAY WE ALL!

In the meantime, next week's episode of Doctor Who on the Sci-Fi Channel is the first of two parts, the second part of which you, Will, absolutely must see. You might want to tune into next week's episode just to get up to speed on the story -- and there's a hint of the must-see-for-Will element -- but you dare not miss it in two weeks.

The smash success of the new Doctor Who in Britain has also spawned spin-offs: one, called Torchwood (an anagram of Doctor Who), is already in production, and another is being discussed and looks like it'll happen. Me, I'm just itchin' for a Lady Cassandra action figure:
