Antietam Nation Cemetery Cleanup

Antietam Nation Cemetery Cleanup

Today I volunteered at the National Cemetery at Antietam national Battlefield in Sharpsburg, MD. I was there to help organize and supervise the more than three hundred area middle school students who would be doing the actual cleaning. It was a beautiful day for this service project with nice sun, partly cloudy skies, a gentle breeze and mild temperatures. The students were very well behaved and did a fantastic job cleaning the headstones of the more than five thousand graves of Union soldiers and a few Confederates who fell during America's single bloodiest day.

Please click on the photo at right and see the five other images from the cleanup.

that's a very cool service project! only a swarm of people could tackle the huge job, and they're preserving important stuff.
