Ron Moore (all bow) updated his blog this week. Read the spoiler free Q&A here.
Well tonight is the night. The ninety-minute second season finale/cliffhanger. If you are setting up the TIVO or the VCR (do people still use VCRs?) remember to adjust it for ninety-minutes. Tonight's episode is #220, LAY DOWN YOUR BURDENS, PART 2. A brief, spoiler free synopsis. After discovering that the hidden planet can support life, a debate erupts over permanent resettlement. The political race for the Presidency heats up, and the crew is stunned when the Cylons send representatives with an overture of peace, but at what cost? AT WHAT COST? I am both looking forward to tonight's episode and not looking forward to it. Not looking forward to it because it marks the end of new episodes for a very, very long time. And that brings me to...
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA NEWS
Galactica set for October season premiere
WEDNESDAY - MARCH 8, 2006
Article blub... The SCI FI Channel's top-rated original series will break the mold and jump to a fall season premiere, the network announced today. The 20-episode third season of Battlestar Galactica will premiere in October 2006 on the cable network. Read the whole article by clicking the link above.
So third season won't premiere for SEVEN MONTHS! Instead of the typical summer premier in three, they have shifted to a fall premiere. FRACKITY! FRACK! FRACK! And so say we all.
WTF?! I mean, seriously, WTF?! You can't pull that kinda crap in the last half hour!
Brilliant. Infuriating! Ridiculous!!
So, is it the best ever, or have they jumped the shark already?
ARGH!! SEVEN MONTHS!! ARGH!!
No, I don't think they have jumped the shark. Again, it's gotten worse... a lot worse.
Posted by: Will Burnham on March 11, 2006 01:14 AMSo, you have a time machine stashed anywhere in that basement collection? Any way we can have October come after April or something?
Time machine? That's what Doctor Who is for...
Meanwhile, I'm very intrigued by the direction BG has taken -- it reminds me a lot of Jack Williamson's "With Folded Hands":

Posted by: Thomas G. Atkinson on March 12, 2006 05:58 PMBecause of something said twenty minutes into the Podcast for episode 220, a rumor is going around that Edward James Olmos will NOT be returning for season three. I have yet to hear the podcast for myself, so I can't quote it directly. There is no official news about this that I can find and so far the buzz among the fans is faint. MM, can you provide the direct quote since you have heard to Podcast? Any one have any news about this? provide links please.
I can not image not having Edward James Olmos on BSG. Admiral Adama is the main characters out of all of the characters. So say we all!
Posted by: Will Burnham on March 13, 2006 11:50 AMEh? I listened to the 220 podcast on Friday night, still in WTF?! mode, and didn't hear anything to that effect. I'll go back again and check it out, but I think that would have sent up a red flag.
At 25:20, after discussing how Dean Stockwell's character will be recurring.
Eick: "Eddie, however, won't be. We should point out at this point in the show..."
Moore: "No, Eddie won't be with us."
Eick: "...there will be no more Edward James Olmos."
I don't know how I missed that the first time 'round.
So, yeah - BSG has jumped the shark.
Posted by: Rob on March 13, 2006 01:06 PMOkay - some more reading, and I think the guys are taking the piss with the fans. In the podcast, the lines transcribed in my previous comment are followed by an (obviously joking) discussion about how they'll have a CGI Adama to replace him. It's just that it really seems as if the second comment is a joke to lighten the impact of the first.
However, I can't find anything anywhere about EJO's departure, and every interview he's given within the last couple months that mentions BSG, he sounds like he's in for the long haul.
Of course, I'm really quite ashamed that I'm geeking out this much over this. ;-)
Posted by: Rob on March 13, 2006 02:02 PMI have now listened to the podcast for myself. It sounds like a joke to me, and I strongly believe that it is a joke. We'll have no more of this Edward James Olmos gibberish!!
