Jenne and I are coming up on our 14th Wedding anniversary. Last year we went to the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown, WV and had a wonderful weekend. We though we would go back this year, but the cost of the rooms skyrocketed and I am looking for alternatives. So, I am asking you if you have any suggestions. Can you suggest a nice hotel, a bed & breakfast or an inn in Maryland (including the Eastern Shore), Delaware, south Jersey, central/southern Pennsylvania, or Virginia that you and a loved one have enjoyed? I am searching the Internet, but reviews from complete strangers don't carry any weight with me. And honestly, what can you tell from reviews like this? "This place is the best. I love it." Or, "This place sucks and I will never go back."
So please leave your recommendations in the comments and if you can inculde a web address that would be great. Seriously, we trust your input. Last year we received awesome recommendations for vacation spots and had the best vacation, EVER! Thanks.
We stayed at the Glades Pike Inn in Somerset, PA a year or two ago. It's a nice little B&B near some wineries, just outside of a quaint little town and it's a short but very scenic drive from Fallingwater, Frank Lloyd Wright's most well known commission. There's just enough to do to satisfy a long weekend.
Plus! The lady running the place was awesome and let us drive all over her property on her little 4x4, then she took us to see the farm property next door to her, and my fiance flipped (in a good way) out upon being exposed to farm cats and baby cows for the first time in her life.
My 2 cents.

Posted by: David on March 3, 2006 08:59 AMHere's a really freat place in the heart of Gettysburg. http://www.brickhouseinn.com/ Best B&B in Gettysburg and I have stayed at several B&Bs in that town. Once the wife and I found the Brick House Inn, we never went back to the others.

Posted by: Nathan on March 5, 2006 03:33 AMWe stayed at Belhurst castle a few years ago. A great romantic place to celebrate being in love. We stayed in the Tower Suite. Absolutely stunning. Jacuzzi, balcony overlooking a huge lake and free wine from a wine spigot on the 2nd floor. It is located probably further than you want to go but it is well worth it. It is www.belhurstcastle.com.
Posted by: Nicky on March 5, 2006 09:19 AMThanks for all the input. Jenne and I have made reservations at the Brick House Inn in Gettysburg, PA.
