In the Hot Seat ~ Steve-O!

Remember way back to late 2004 and early 2005 when I ran the In the Hot Seat interviews? I did one in all of oh-five. Well, my good friend, Steve-o was digging back through my site archives and came across the Hot Seat interviews, emailed me and said he wanted to do one. So, here’s that interview with Steve-o, long time personal friend and author of the blog, Peace, Love & SOUL-eryette.

BDTH: Steve-o, thanks for volunteering.

Steve-O: My pleasure. Happy to be in the hot seat.

BDTH: So, Steve-o, tell the people when and how we met.

SO: We met at, of all places, a Star Trek convention. I think it was “Tribblecon” or some such nonsense at the Hunt Valley Marriott. We have the same maniacally-gleeful sense of humor, so we hit it off right away.

BDTH: I think it was Tom and Karla that introduced us. Boy do we ever have a similar sence of humor! When and where were you born?

SO: I was born in August of 1965 on a little Air Force Base called Robins. At the time, the base hospital there was a converted WWII Army barracks.

BDTH: Where do currently reside? Is it where you really want to be or would you like to be living someplace else? If so, where?

SO: I currently live in the bustling metropolis that is Catonsville, Maryland. Hell, no, it isn’t where I want to be. I still have to go to work, and white stuff still falls from the sky.

BDTH: What was your childhood like?

SO: My childhood was hectic. Dad was in the Air Force for my entire childhood, until after I left home to join – get this – the Air Force! So we moved around constantly. I met a lot of interesting people and saw a lot of interesting things, but sometimes I get sad that I never laid down any roots.

BDTH: What is your favorite childhood memory?

SO: Wow! There are so many things… Building models with my brother, fishing trips in the Everglades… I guess my favorite childhood memory would be that of being a child, of that’s not too much of a cop-out.

BDTH: Yeah, it's kind of a cop out, but we'll let you take it! LOL! next question. What person, or what group of people has most influenced your life?

SO: My life has been influenced incredibly by the shining example of my Grandpa, who taught me that slower is better, whenever you have a choice.

BDTH: What do you do for the Shitty Little Job (SLJ) and do you love or hate it?

SO: I’m a Research Scientist. It has its moments.

BDTH: What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?

SO: Easy – I wanna be a rock and roll star, live large, with five cars. Just that simple.

BDTH: What profession would you not want to attempt?

SO: I would never want to be a White House Press Secretary. That guy takes a beating every day.

BDTH: What are your hobbies and interests?

SO: Guitar, my MINI, cheesy action movies, thought-provoking debate.

BDTH: What are your favorite three movies?

SO: The 13th Warrior, because it shows that even the most unlikely people can be heroes; The Italian Job, because of the sweet cars, and Snatch, because it makes me laugh. Every time. I have to make it clear, though, that if you ask me ten minutes from now, the list will have changed.

BDTH: What are your favorite three TV shows?

SO: Friends, CSI, Battlestar Galactica. This list ain’t changing.

BDTH: What are your favorite three books?

SO: Stephen King’s “Dark Tower” series (it’s really just one really long book), Greg Palast’s “The Best Democracy Money Can Buy” (truth to power, beeyotches!), and “A Book of Five Rings” by Miyamoto Musashi, the finest swordsman who ever lived.

BDTH: What are your favorite foods and drinks?

SO: I would have to say that Pho currently tops my list of comestibles, but I really groove on Shashlyk.

BDTH: What is your favorite curse word?

SO: “Mother pus-bucket!!!”

BDTH: What is your favorite word?

SO: Love. It really is “all you need.”

BDTH: What is your least favorite word?

SO: Hate. I’m not a religious guy, so I don’t believe in “Satan”. For me, “Hate” is that word.

BDTH: What turns you on creatively, spiritually and emotionally?

SO: People who are creative, spiritual, and emotional. And sunsets.

BDTH: What turns you off?

SO: People who don’t want to take responsibility for their own thoughts. And smog.

BDTH: What sound or noise do you love?

SO: I quote John Mayer here, “I’d like that”.

BDTH: What sound or noise do you hate?

SO: The theme music to “JAG”. God, I can’t stand that show.

BDTH: If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear (insert deity of choice here) say when you arrive?

SO: “Dood, here’s your guitar. Hendrix and Stevie are over there waiting for you.”

BDTH: Steve-o, my MINI brother, thanks for sitting in the hot seat.

SO: No problem, brother.

Anyone else care to volunteer to sit in the hot seat? Just let me know.

Palast was at Hopkins last winter, he gave a hell of a talk. If you ever get the chance he's a very engaging speaker. Really fired me up. Like i need that...

I really liked Snatch too.

did you know that "The 13th Warrior" is (very) loosely based on the epic poem "Beowulf"?
