I know that several folks that visit my site are fans of Hayao Miyazaki and his Studio Ghibli. I also know that many of you are also fans of Ursula K. Le Guin. Like many of you, I happen to be both. I know that you will also find this news very exciting!
Goro Miyazaki, son of famed and beloved director, Hayao Miyazaki is working on Tales of Earthsea, based on the Earthsea series by Ursula K. Le Guin. The film is to be released in Japan July 2006. Check out Nausicaa.Net for the information that they currently have and for updates.
Ursula K. Le Guin's web site can be found here.
Last month on TCM they honored Miyazaki and showed several of his movies. I finally got to see Princess Mononoke. I also watched Only Yesterday on and off. Turned Pom Pokko off after 10 minutes, too weird.

Better hope Ursula K. Le Guin likes Goro's version of Earthsea. I heard she ripped SciFi a new asshole for the version they did. And she consulted on it, supposedly.
I'm seeing this in the FAQs:
... the film will probably mix several episodes from various volumes.
and I'm really not sharing your enthusiasm, Will.
Dear Somewhat,
And that's okay.
I dunno... is that Ged talking to that dragon? He looks awfully pale...
There's a lot on the subject of the Sci-Fi channel's adaptation, and links to excellent observations like this one:

... on LeGuin's site. I just spent a couple hours following links and reading the discussion. Wow.
