Would You Buy That for a Dollar?

"Greetings, friends. Do you wish to look as happy as me? Well, you've got the power inside you right now. So, use it, and send one dollar to Happy Dude, 742 Evergreen Terrace, Springfield. Don't delay, eternal happiness is just a dollar away."
Homer's take at telemarketing scam from the episode, "Lisa's Date With Density"

I love classic Simpsons and Homer’s “happy dude” autodailer telemarketing scam was hysterical. What’s not hysterical is the daily news. Are you as fed up as I am with all of the sad, disturbing and horrible news on TV, the radio and on the Internet. Are you tired of co-workers, family and friends emailing you links to the latest wrecks, murders and catastrophes the second you arrive at the office? I sure am. I already suffer from depression and I don’t need to hear about all of the bad crap in the world every couple of hours. I don't watch the morning or the evening news. Instead, I watch the Daily Show, so I can at least laugh at the news. Would you like to read some uplifting and happy news each morning, as you start your day? Would you like to be uplifted instead of being beaten down? Would you buy that for a dollar? Of course you would, but guess what? You don’t have to, because it’s free! So don’t worry, be happy and check out HAPPYNEWS.COM and bookmark it. And if you still want to read sad news, the folks at HAPPYNEWS.COM have provided convenient links to CNN, MSNBC, ABC, BBC and the worst of all, FOX News for you on the left hand side of their page.

Today’s happy news stories…

You and me both, man. You and me both.

In my case, I'm boned - it's my job to know each and every excruciating detail of what's going on in the "modren" world.

But at least I can come to your blog and look at absolutely adorable cat pix.

when happy news goes out of business will they be able to write a story about it?

Ah, here we go! I've subscribed to this for quite a few years now: http://www.thisistrue.com/

(they have both paid and free subscription options). It's not good news, usually, but it's funny news.

They have a sister site devoted to good news: http://www.heroicstories.com/

I highly recommend checking them out!

For the news in-between, check out http://newsoftheweird.com/ "Proof that true stories are weirder than made-up stories."

I used to read these in the DC City Paper 15 or so years ago. Between these and the "SBDFBiDom looking for a whipping good time" personals, it proved I lived a truly sheltered life.
