Pelican at Silver Lake

Boats and Birds at Silver Lake

The Windfall Under Sail
Three views of the Ocracoke village harbor called Silver Lake. Pelicans and many types of gulls were common perched on pilings and flying overhead. In the background of each shot is the famous Ocracoke Lighthouse, which still operates and the light is visible for fourteen miles. Many types of boat also occupy the harbor from kayaks and rafts to small pleasure craft, sail, ferry and fishing boats. The Windfall is available for sailing adventures out on the Pamlico Sound. Next time we go to Ocracoke, Jenne and I will be signing up to crew the Windfall for an afternoon of sailing. There sure is lots to do at Ocracoke.

That's a class III light, as I recall. All of the Bank's lighthouses still operate. They make a wonderful study in themselves. The most attractive one, IMHO is Hatteras.
It's good to see a working harbor again. I love messing around on boats.
