Jenne gets rigged into a life jacket and harness

All set and ready to fly. Jenne is an adrenaline junkie!

The crew inflates the chute and readies the lift rig.

The boat captain applies power to the throttle and we lift off from the rear deck of the boat! Houston we have lift off!

UP, UP AND AWAY! We fly over the Pamlico Sound 500'+ feet in the air. HIGHER! HIGHER!
For both Jenne and I this was our first time parasailing and it was great. It was so quiet as we floated along above the water and we had a fantastic view. At no time were we scared. One of the best parts was when the captain cut power and we floated down just a few feet above the water and then he gunned the engined and we pooped POPPED back up in the air! Coming in for a landing was really cool and is the closest we will ever get to what it might be like to land on an aircraft carrier. The tiny rear deck of the boat slowly grew in size and then we touched down on it (gently) and sat down. Our thanks to the boat crew for taking some shots of us in the air. The next time I will take the camera up with me.
Looks like great fun! Maybe Dr. Worm can convince the Pea to take flight someday. Holy Flying Peas, Batman!

Looks like great fun. Next beach or lake trip, we are sailn'.

I don't know how you were able to part with the camera while you were up there. I will have to check into doing that when I go to The outer banks area in a few months. If I go up I'll take my camera up with me and give the boat guys another camera. I'll just have to make sure my camera doesn't drop while i'm up in the air. A body harness for the camera might help.
Posted by: Scott B. on June 15, 2005 07:08 PMHi Scott,
The decision to leave the camera on the boat was not an easy one. However, not having parasailed before I wanted to experience it first hand before taking the camera up with me. I wanted to know what it was like and what I could expect from the take off and landing. Now that I have done it I would definitely take the camera up with me next time, but I would still take a dry bag with me just in case the boat would loose power and we came down in the drink (it's happened)! By the way, if you drop anything while up there (we didn't) you can forget ever seeing it again.
Peace,
