Battlestar Friday

This entry goes out to my man Larry D! Here's to you citizen!

The withdrawal is only worsening. It seems like the premiere episode of season two is yarens away. For those of you not in the know about Galactica from the 1970’s a yaren is the equivalent of our year. Year… yaren… you get it. I have been getting my BSG fix – which is better than LDS, which I heard someone with pointed ears did a lot of in the sixties –by reading the official Battlestar Blog of the guy behind he reimagined BSG, Ron Moore.

Ron had this to say about the upcoming season, “We've almost completed shooting the opening of Season Two, with Michael Rymer back at the helm filming a two-parter written by David Weddle & Bradley Thompson called "Scattered" and "Valley of Darkness." Things have been going well so far, with a good mood on the set and a feeling of satisfaction and pride running through the whole team at their accomplishments in year one and anticipation for year two.”

I am so excited about the upcoming season. There’s lots of good stuff to read at his blog, however, be warned that if you still haven’t seen all of first season (SLACKER) that there are lots of spoilers and some talk about what we can expect from season two. Ron Moore also answers viewers’ questions, such as this one…

"WHERE the frack is Boxey?

Ron Moore: Boxey died a hard nasty death on the page and in the editing room, and was last seen haunting the deleted scenes area of this very website. Boxey's character was included in several episodes last season, but ended up on the cutting room floor time and again, not for lack of ability on the actor, but simply because as the show evolved and focused itself over the course of the year, his character became ancillary to the storylines. But who knows, he might yet lurch out of the shadows once Sharon's daughter reaches the age of Colonial consent.

What I haven’t found though is the answer to two even more important questions. First, will we see the mechanical dog-like robot called Daggit, and secondly, will the crew of Galactica find a planet with a renegade Cylon who thinks he’s a wild west cowboy called ‘Red Eye’? Just kidding… or am I?

Time to go and mix my Red Bull with vodka and get down to some video gaming!

So say we all!

At least we have Star Wars-Episode III (let's be positive here!) and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (how can they screw this up?) to tide us over!

U-P, it never ceases to amaze me how Hollywood can take most excellent books, and turn them into utter wastes of time and money. We're planning to see HGTHG very soon, so I sincerely hope it's not FUBR.

As far as BSG goes, I'm eagerly waiting for some recordings that a friend is making for me, so I can have a nice buttnumbathon. I've gotten, I think, beyond the mindset of needing any real connection to the original series -- it was so bad! -- so I can judge this thing on its own merits.

Geren, you don't need any connection to the old series at all. None... nadda... zip. I watched the old series when I was a kid. Back then I enjoyed it, but I have to admit that today I wouldn't sit down to watch it again, but I will (and I am) watching the new series again and again.
So say we all.
Peace,
--Will
