The Ugly Side

TheUglySideOfCherryBlossomFest.jpg
Somewhere under that pile is a trash can. At least that is what I would like to think.

On Monday I shared with you the beautiful side of the Cherry Blossom festival in DC, now here is the ugly - and a bit stinky - side. Dozens upon dozens of trash heaps. Hundreds of thousands of people roaming around, eating and drinking sure make a lot of garbage and DC sanitation can't keep up. The trash cans vanish under piles before noon and the piles of trash spread throughout the day like amorphous blobs as folks toss more and and more on. You'd think after decades of this annual event the DC sanitation would be prepared and capable of dealing with the trash effectively. For our part we carried the two plastic water bottles we had away with us.

~I remember going to Dead shows quite a lot, and always foloowing the mantra of what you bring in take out with you, leave nothing but footprints behind...obviously a lot of people at the Cheery Blossom fest decided not to follow that mantra themselves...~
