When does standing in the surf at the beach photographing a lame ass wave or tidal surge become an "actual Tsunami photo"? When some ass-clown prank-monkey on the Internet says so and decent people fall for it.
I really wish that people wouldn’t take everything they get in their email inboxes and from blogs at face value. Let me give you an example of what I am talking about. Recall that in January 2003 photos circulated the Internet of the Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrating in orbit. Man oh man did I get a ton of those. I knew right off the bat they were fake and a little research proved me right. Those “authentic Israeli satellite photos” were actually stills from the film Armageddon! D'OH! Here's a real satellite photo of the shuttle in space. This year it's Tsunami photos. Come on folks, you're smart and you have a great research tool right in front of you. Take a few minutes to do a little Internet research before passing on "real" and "actual" and “authentic” photos of tragic events, and please stop flooding my inbox with those “actual tsunami photos”! Click here and see the fakes that people think are believing are the real deal. Double D'OH!
PS, this one is my absolute favorite "actual tsunami" photo. ROTFLMAO!

hello to will my wild OLD american fiend,
habid to say, you know what would be a real hoot. Somebody to photokrop a group the H2 hummers heading into the wave of Tusami.
Why the habid is to be the betting that some the H2 small Penised ass-klowns would actually to try.
habid to say the challenge is the on. Habid not know how to do the photo shop or habid to do himself. All Habid know is to reboot the PC

Posted by: Joe on January 13, 2005 03:12 PMWill A-ah
Savior of the Universe
Will
He'll save everyone of us
Will
He's a miracle
Will
King of the impossible
He's for everyone of us
Stand for everyone of us
He'll save with a mighty hand
Every man every woman every child
From the dumb ass-clowns
Just a man
With a man's courage
Nothing but a man
But he can never fail
No-one but the pure at heart
May find the Golden Grail
Will, we love you
But we only have fourteen hours to save the Earth
What you're railing about is what I refer to as catch-phrase hysteria. Something's happened somewhere around the world that the media and other outlets latch on to and ride like Slim Pickens riding the atom bomb in Dr. Strangelove.
It's on the minds and lips of every idiot on the street. It's in every conversation and in every email. It's on every front page and webpage. It's a week-long Discovery Channel Spotlight, 20/20 report, 60 Minutes Andy Rooney essay, local news special investigative segment.... It becomes trivial.
Then comes the spam. The stories of someone who knows someone who saw or experienced something close to that, but not quite. The pictures and reports taken out of context, or just completely faked, to get in on the hot-topic of the minute. Reality becomes urban legend.
It goes on for weeks, sometimes months, until it becomes an exhausted topic. Next, something else happens that requires 15 minutes of fame and a need to reach furvor status. Then some new researcher or expert, who gets drafted to go in front of the cameras, becomes the next media darling (whore) to satisfy the collective unconscious.
And the process begins all over again....

The irony is that not 10 minutes before I read this entry did someone send me a PowerPoint file listing some of the fake pictures. Folks are suckers. I've been on the 'WEB' for abotu 12 years now. There's little out there I haven't already seen a million times, and I'm always tickled when I get a forward containing a message or photo or something that I'd originally seen a decade ago. Hooray Intarwebb!
