On Saturday my friend and ‘brother’, Michael started his three weeks off from work. Three weeks off from work sounds like a great time and an awesome vacation, but it’s not when you can’t do anything but lay around because you are recovering from invasive surgery. For the first ten to twelve days he can’t do anything, but lie on the couch on in bed. These are strict doctor’s orders! From my personal experience I can say that boredom and frustration at not being able to do anything but lay around will set in pretty quick, as in a couple of days. The surgery Michael is having is to plug a hole in his diaphragm. The procedure will start at 12:20 PM today and take approximately two and a half hours. In layman’s terms what they are doing is putting a plug or patch in to close the opening. Having a hole in one’s diaphragm is not a good thing and it most definitely can kill you if it’s not fixed, which is why he is having it fixed. Believe it or not this is an outpatient procedure, if there are no complications. Please send your prayers and positive energy his way (thanks). Then Michael has a three week recovery period! From talking to him last night I know he is pretty well stocked up on DVDs and video games, and Mr. Hughes and I will be stopping in to play games and offer help. He has a very long butt-numb-a-thon ahead of him. Maybe I should lend him the first four seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer! He already has the Star Wars and Lord of the Rings trilogies. May the Force be with him.
The same Michael that made those awesome cards for your gallery show?! Well then in geek speak... may the Force be with him ;-)

Posted by: Will Burnham on September 27, 2004 03:14 PMHoly Moses, at this point I'm waiting for "drive through surgery" Eeep. I'm so glad he did well. That sounds like a serious thing & he should definately follow his doctors orders...though I know it will surely be hard for him. May the Force, indeed be with him & I will hold him in the Light.

Metaphors be with you both.
