In the Hot Seat... The Parrot's Meow!

Greetings gentle reader and welcome to the latest installment of In the Hot Seat. This week I welcome another Theme Thursday alum and photo-blogger to the seat. She is another creative soul and not only does she make wonderful photographs that she posts daily on her own site - The Parrot's Meow - but she also makes jewelery. And she was instrumental in helping me with the new look of the web site for which I am very appreciative. She made the way cool graphic at the top of the page (move your mouse over it) and all of the subject headers on the left side. She comes to my web site all the way from the Pacific Northwest... please welcome and say hello to Myla Kent!

BDTH: How did you find my web site and what keeps you coming back?
MK: I think I found you by way of Theme Thursday originally. The wonderful wit and wisdom that is Will, that’s what keeps me coming back! :-)

BDTH: When and where were you born?
MK: The day before the Beatles released Yesterday - 9/12/1965; in California. . .

BDTH: What was your childhood like?
MK: Pretty typical, I grew up in the 1970’s. . .
BDTH: What I remember from the seventies is Star Wars and for some reason I have Disco Duck stuck in my head at the moment. Oh and I remember terry cloth clothes!

BDTH: Where do currently reside (general geographic area)? Is it where you really want to be or would you like to be living someplace else? If so, where?
MK: In the Pacific Northwest. . . if I could live anywhere? On a remote beach somewhere tropical. Although I’ve always thought I’d love to live in Australia – or the UK.

BDTH: What is your favorite childhood memory?
MK: Probably the day I found out I was going to be one of the leads in our ballet school’s production of The Red Shoes. I was cast as the Gypsy Princess, and I loved my costume. I still have it, and my toe shoes. That, and the time my older brother and sister took us to Disneyland “just because” – that was a great day.

BDTH: What person, or what group of people has most influenced your life?
MK: My parents.

BDTH: What do you do for the Shitty Little Job (SLJ) and do you love or hate it?
MK: I’m an IP Paralegal. I now work for two great guys, so right now, like it well enough.

BDTH: What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
MK: Professional photographer. *sigh*

BDTH: What profession would you not want to attempt?
MK: Anything to do with numbers or accounting, sorry to all the number crunchers out there.
BDTH: I hate numbers. There’s too many of them!

BDTH: What are your hobbies and interests?
MK: Web design, jewelry design, photography, painting, working with animals

BDTH: What are your favorite three movies?
MK: I don’t know that I could only pick 3. Anything with Meryl Streep in it.
BDTH: I have to admit something to you here… I feel asleep in the Carroll Movie theatre watching Out of Africa on a date with my girlfriend of the time. I didn’t snore. When she saw I was asleep she nudged me and I thought the movie was over. I was wrong.

BDTH: What are your favorite three TV shows?
MK: Believe it or not I don’t watch television anymore. By choice. Try it for a week, it’s so liberating. What I did was buy 2 DVD’s every month for less than what I was paying for cable. That was about 5 years ago. Now I have an awesome DVD collection, and more free time to do the things I love.
BDTH: Myla are you familiar with the Disposable Heroes of Hipocrisy and their song Television, Drug of the Free?

BDTH: What are your favorite three books?
MK: That’s tough, as I have far too many and picking one would be like picking one child over another and telling them that they were your favorite. I’m not answering these that well, am I?
BDTH: You’re free to answer in any way that suits you.
MK: Thanks Will.

BDTH: What are your favorite foods and drinks?
MK: I love avocados, cherries, champagne mangos and Scottish Salmon (especially in sushi form at Benihana’s with Wendy); Diet 7UP and Cherry Slurpees (thanks to Jinky).

BDTH: What is your favorite curse word?
MK: I try not to swear because I believe I have a better education (and vocabulary) – and my mother raised me to be a lady, but if I have to pick one, it would probably be damn…

BDTH: What is you favorite word?
MK: Bliss. Although Imagine runs a close second. And third would be “coconut milk.”
BDTH: My people come from the planet Blisstonia. It’s known for its elevated levels of Bliss.

BDTH: What is your least favorite word?
MK: Negativity.

BDTH: What turns you on creatively, spiritually and emotionally?
MK: Creatively – the visual wonders of nature;
spiritually – the truth;
emotionally – innate strength.

BDTH: What turns you off?
MK: Cynicism

BDTH: What sound or noise do you love?
MK: The sound of the ocean
BDTH: Did you know you can hear the sound of the ocean in more than sea shells? Put a mug up to your ear and it makes the same sound. I don’t think a shoe works though.

BDTH: What sound or noise do you hate?
MK: Screeching tires behind me
BDTH: Oh yeah, I know that sound a little too well. That makes my list of hated sounds for sure. Crunching metal is right up there.

BDTH: If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear (insert deity of choice here) say when you arrive?
MK: I’m going to say what Meryl said when she was asked this on the Actors’ Studio interview: “Everybody in!”

BDTH: Myla, thanks for sitting in the hot seat. It was a pleasure.
MK: Oh no Will, thank you for having me.
