Because Lynn asked for it in all B&W.
Yes, I did photograph more than women while making people photographs at Hershey Park a week ago. I saw this boy sitting all by himself. No family or friends seemed to be anywhere around and he looked pretty sad and lonely; and since this week's Moody Monday theme - yes, another photo meme - is lonely I decided to publish this image. More images from Hershey Park will be posted throughout the week.

Love the color on black and white. Really increases the "lonely" factor. I feel sad just looking at him.
Posted by: Becky on September 13, 2004 08:44 AMOh my... I'm cant stop wondering now what his sadness and loneliness is all about...
Powerfull shot!
Posted by: Renée on September 13, 2004 08:47 AMI'm thinking in real life it might have been more like "pouting" but it certainly does look like lonliness the way you have it composed...and the black and white areas do help convey the message. Did you try it in all black and white?
Posted by: Lynn on September 13, 2004 09:22 AMso young and so lonely. Very sad but beautiful picture
Posted by: Tine on September 13, 2004 10:10 AMBeautiful and sad. The contrast is striking...
Posted by: Hilde on September 13, 2004 10:45 AMFor a sec I thought you were talking about the same boy: http://bananas.tplace.org/archives/000553.html ;( They look pretty much the same, aren't they?
I do prefer the manipulated image most; The red on b&w catches the attention and that's exactly what this picture is all about: The little boy.
Posted by: Bananas! on September 13, 2004 11:01 AMThe contrast of the boy against the b/w background makes a strong statement. Very nicely done!
Posted by: The Girlfriend on September 13, 2004 10:41 PM~the color hits me harder than just the b&w or selective desat. image; great shot though, lonely, contemplative moment...well spotted Will~
