Dawn of Battle

Photo Friday has started something new called an Extra Challenge and here's how they describe this new type of photo challenge...

"Regular Challenges come without any instructions on how to interpret them. Extra Challenges are different. Each will have guidelines that participants must follow. Our very first Extra Challenge is: "Analog". This one has a simple rule: NO IMAGES FROM DIGITAL CAMERAS. Remember, all normal submission rules apply. This Extra Challenge replaces the Regular Challenge that would have ordinarily appeared August 20th. If you don't have a film camera, borrow one from a friend, or consider a disposable. Otherwise, please come back the following week for a Regular Challenge."

Regular and long time readers of this site know the above image well. For those of you who haven't seen it, it's obviously new to you. This image was made using a Nikon N6006 using Fuji-Color 400 speed film. The lens used is a Sigma 28-300mm F3.5 Hyper-Zoom. The image was made in September 2002 around 5:30 AM at the dawn battle of the 140th Anniversary re-enactment of the battle of Antietam/Sharpsburg, MD (Sept. 17, 1862). At the time of the re-enactment I didn't even own a digital camera. It would be almost another year before I owned my first digital, a Minolta Dimage 7i. I am really itching to buy my second digital camera, a Nikon D70. I have five Nikon lenses at home that haven't been used in a very long time since I am shooting mostly digital. I still have my N6006, but I haven't used it in months. The last time I used it I shot this image.
