Shift ~ Theme Thursday Image for 08.05.04

Shift Da Jewels

Hey ladies, every guy out there does this particular shift AT LEAST once a day. I may actually do it at least a half a dozen times myself. Hey, the meat and two veg often get in a tangle during the day. Sitting and standing and walking around and sitting and standing, etc... they get all squished together and jumbled in the underpants. It's hard sometimes. Wait... that didn't come out quite right. Anyway, you ladies rarely see us guys shift and a lot of times we do it in public where we think no one sees it. We've shifted to left right behind you while we watch you shop for clothes and we hold your purse. We've shifted to the right while behind you in line at the grocery store. Then, after years - okay, OKAY... months... of togetherness we do it right in front of you with our left hand while we have the right arm drapped over your shoulder - and our hand holds a beer - while we watch TV together. Pardon me, but I have to shift in my chair... my back is killing me.

This is my submission for this week's Theme Thursday challenge of SHIFT!

My original ideas for the shift theme all involved traffic. Shifting lanes, construction signs, etc... Afterall I drive in lots of shifting traffic on my long commute. A couple of reasons I didn't go with that idea are 1) it's not safe to operate a camera and drive 2) in the areas where the traffic would be most interesting there is no place to pull over and get a good angle or the perspective I wanted and 3) generally traffic is a pretty boring subject. While I was sitting in traffic I was thinking about other possibilities. My idea for the above photo came while sitting at a red light Wednesday night. I had been in traffic for the better part of an hour and I had to reach down and shift da jewels.

Geeky photo stuff: Minolta Dimage 7i, manual settings, 28mm wide angle (you really need a wide angle lens for this kind of shot), side lighting provided by a floor standing desk lamp, camera mounted to a Manfroto tripod.

Too funny, Will! This made me laugh out loud. I work with a guy who 'shifts' his wares a dozen times an hour. Even the guys have commented 'Yep, man, it's STILL there.' :-)

indeed, shifting makes the day much more tolerable. that's why so many public speakers stand behind podiums, they have to shift once in a while too.

Hrm... it reminds me of Greek men - they seem to shift 'da jewels' more often than any other man I've ever met.
