Via my blogless friend, Michael.

Michael is the #4 most common male name.
2.629% of men in the US are named Michael.
Around 3,220,525 US men are named Michael!

and right after that....

William is the #5 most common male name.
2.451% of men in the US are named William.
Around 3,002,475 US men are named William!
Burnham is the #2132 most common last name.

Surprisingly there are no stats for people named Ass-Hat or Ass-Clown (with or without the hyphens) and I know for a fact that there are millions of those out there!

Michael found this information at Name Statistics dot com. Now click the link - because I know you are dying to - and get all the info on your name and post it to your own blog and/or the comments for this entry. Go ahead... do it. You know you want to.

Thomas is the #10 most common male name.

1.38% of men in the US are named Thomas.
Around 1690500 US men are named Thomas!

Atkinson is the #635 most common last name.

0.019% of last names in the US are Atkinson.
Around 47500 US last names are Atkinson!

That was fun. I suppose statistics on middle names would be asking too much. Or the percentage of people who actually liked their middle name.

I like my middle name better than my first name! For sure. I don't sign "T.Lynn" for no good reason. And yes, it SHALL remain a mystery unless our good Friend Will here spills the beans. There may be a lot of Williams, but they often turn into "Bill, or Billy, or Mac, or Buddy" ( go figure) True Wills are hard to find.

Well, "Robert" is #3 on the most common list. "Novak" is #1171. I'm just a commoner.

BTW - some other names in my immediate family, for instance "Jerousek" and "Zadera," don't even register with a search. And no, they're not pronounced (correctly) the way they're spelled, as they're Anglicized Czech spellings. The first is pronounced something like "YUH-ruh-shek" with the second syllable starting with something like a trilled "r" or a cross between a "d" and an "r. The second is properly pronounced "ZAH-djah-ruh." Even "Novak" is Anglicized - the proper spelling is "Nowak" and it's prounounced (in typical Slavik fashion) more or less like "NUH-vuk".

There are only about 1250 Kimptons in the US. What's funny is that there are 5000ish people with the LAST name of Jaime (in addition to the 100k or so with it as a first name).

I noticed while browsing the 2000 census listing that there are actually a multitude of people named "Numbers," after the book in the Bible. Out of curiosity, I ran that name, and got this:

"Numbers is the #753 most common male name.
0.008% of men in the US are named Numbers.
Around 9800 US men are named Numbers!"

...and about 3825 women.

*blink*

Birth name ranks 159th most common. Name assumed in junior high ranks 52nd most common. Pen name ranks 1393rd most common. I'm just one common little thing aren't I? On the surname front, my married name is twice as common as my maiden name, however hypenating my name and my lover's name just oozes uniqueness.

Fortunately, the name issued me by the federal witness protection program ranks 2,549,278th most common so I am finally a rarity.

btw, I assume we all know that habid is a very rare male/female/last name...

THis is fantastic! Katie is a very rare male name (thank heavens) and is #193 on the girls' list. My last name is # 531 on the last name list. BUT, Lewesrat is very rare as a male name, as a female name, and as a last name. HA! There's where my uniqueness is! :-)
