Two Hands

Two Hands
As Jenne and I walked though old towne Ellicott City on Sunday afternoon this porcelain hand in an antique store window caught my eye. As I looked at it and appraised it as a photographic subject the reflection of my left hand in the window and the shadow it cast also caught my eye.

I decided to experiment and play around a bit. Besides my photo outings are never complete unless I draw a few odd stares/comments or get in a confrontation. With my right hand holding the camera and my eye to the viewfinder I moved my left hand in space changing position and angle and snapping away. All the while looking like a mime school reject. I drew the odd stares and one comment. My outing could now be considered complete. I was happy. I call the image Two Hands and I like that one is physical and the other is ethereal... a reflection... a shadow. Both reach for each other, but being on different planes of existence they will never touch. I think that this image needs a poem... a Haiku perhaps.

This photograph was shot with the lens set at 150mm and is presented full frame with no cropping. It was shot for this month's Central Maryland Photographers' Guild assignment. Details of the assignment can be found here.

Neat shot! It took me a second to even see the shadow. But I am not good at truly "seeing" - A trained eye. That's what I need. How do you get one? Did you just develop it or was it something that came naturally?
