Each Friday morning I roll out of bed with a twinge of that Christmas day anticipation. The kind of anticipation that comes with presents. I bound down the stairs to the basement, jump on the Internet, and click on the link for Photo Friday. As I wait - briefly - for the site to load I feel that excitement one has when unwrapping a present. What will the box contain, or in this case what will the photo challenge be? Is the present in the box a new tech gadget, a favorite DVD or CD, a new game for the Playstation... or a neck tie*? The gift is open, the site has loaded and I feign delight. Actually, I utter the phrase, "you have to be fucking kidding me." This morning's Photo Friday challenge is akin to receiving a box full of Fruit of the Loom tightie whitie underwear. The challenge is WORK!
With all that goes on at the SLJ** I just can't wrap my head around this photo challenge. I know the photo I ultimately shoot doesn't have to relate to my work at the SLJ, but it's just one of those things that I have a mental road block about. I need to find a detour. It's even harder to get my head around this theme because of what happened yesterday afternoon. Yes, another unpleasant meeting and discussion with the boss. Another few minutes of convincing myself that I just can't walk off this job without having something else... anything else lined up. I'm not going to go into details because I really don't want to relive it through writing. Those who need to know either do know or will know shortly. Any way, I am sure that I will come up with some photo idea, but it may not be today, as I have lots of work to do and it's not the kind of work that will make for a good or interesting photograph... or will it. Hmmm.
* It must be noted that Jenne has NEVER given me a neck tie as a Christmas or Birthday gift. Nor has she given me tightie whitie underpants... aka briefs. Two reasons. 1) Right from the start of our relationship I made it perfectly clear that those sorts of things were totally unaceptable as gifts for any occassion. 2) I hate neck ties and I wear boxers.
** Shitty little job
Maybe you could use this as another way to visualize your life after the SLJ and success in your work life. You know, photograph things that symbolize your perfect work. Chances are, it's not my part-time department store job - last night I was covered with Christmas Wreaths like a walking tree from the Gift Dpt. They itch!
Posted by: Lynn on November 14, 2003 10:51 AMMy response was, "Oh, come on!" And, though I haven't seen any cat pictures yet, there's a shot of a dog ... sleeping. WTF?
Posted by: GerenM on November 14, 2003 11:12 AMCome on Will use that enormous melon for something other than a hat rack. How about a pic of your VOLUNTEER work?
Posted by: clark on November 14, 2003 11:32 AMLynn, Right now you don't want to know what I am visualizing concerning work. HEHE.
Geren, If there's a dog photo already you can bet that it's only a matter of time before someone posts a photo of their cat. Any time now...
Clark, as you know most hats don't fit me. My head is pretty big. Even my authentic Civil War kepi had to be custom made and the guy who made it said it was the largest hat he had ever done. I am coming up with some ideas. I just need to find the time now to photograph them.
So the challenge is work. Any idea how to capture foreplay on film? I really miss peace, prosperity and Clinton!!! Eleven more months of the a hole (aka Dubya)
Posted by: Lt. Dan on November 14, 2003 12:38 PMWORK......you want a pic of WORK...........come over and watch me bust my ass........Geren did and I never saw him again............. :-)
Hang in there guy.......something will come your way.
I had already posted plenty of work related pictures for other themes/challenges so I dialed in 1977 on the wayback machine and posted something about my work form then. How about another picture from the old Jimmy Olsen days?
Posted by: Brian the Red on November 14, 2003 07:59 PMI like your picture, but I especially liked your commentary. I've only just come across the Photo Friday challenges but I have to say that Work wasn't a topic that I found all that inspiring - as can be seen in my attempt (http://cgi.synchrony.plus.com/iblog/archives/000080.php).
By the way, your keyboard is frighteningly clean ;-)
Posted by: djn1 on November 14, 2003 08:47 PMi agree with you will.. i was like erm.. i don't work*L* so going about the challenge to what I supposedly do for a living.. wouldn't suit.. so i had to think of other things.. the husband quickly said idon'tthinkso to me taking HIS photo working.. so i went with a leftover from july's 26 things project.
