As of Sunday morning, November 2nd, I am now a National Park Service Volunteer at Antietam National Battlefield. Only a few folks even new that I had filled out the application almost a month ago and was going through the interview process. Basically I didn't tell many folks or write about on my site because I didn't want to risk jinxing it. It would have been pretty embarassing and devestating to me not to have gotten the position and then have to explain why it didn't happen. As most folks know I love to work with people, and to talk about the American Civil War and Antietam especially. The application and interview process itself was pretty easy. Fill out and submit application along with a list of references, set up an interview, attend interview (10:00 AM Sunday), answer questions, ask questions, sign paperwork, receive shirts, hats and pins, and TADA! New volunteer. I volunteer for a minimum of ten hours a month. My duties are to man the information desk, greet visitors, orient them to the park and answer questions, collect fees, hand out maps, give interpretative talks and tours, and assist with special events. As a volunteer I receive $8 for each day I volunteer for food/gas and a 10% discount on anything in the book store/gift shop There goes the $8 they give me for food/gas. My first day of service and on the job training will be next Sunday November 9th. I am pretty excited about all of this and looking forward to my first day. By the way, I did shot several images while Antietam on Sunday morning after my interview. I'll post a few this week.
Congrats. Can you choose how to break up the 10 hours? Two fives or 8 & 2 or one big 10...

1) Is the war over or still going on?
