Weekend Wrapup

Simply Gershwin, Paul Bisaccia, piano and John Whitley, tenor.

Another busy and fun filled weekend has left me absolutely bushed on another manic Monday morning. Friday night was dinner out. Saturday morning and early afternoon found me waiting in line to buy movie tickets. Saturday afternoon wasn't the most fun, as I had to do my share of the house cleaning. Sunday was breakfast with God followed in the afternoon by a Gershwin concert at church. Geren, his girlfriend and a friend of theirs joined us for the concert. Simply Gershwin performed all the best know George and Ira Gershwin hits in their hour and a half performance. The absolute best piece was Rhapsody in Blue, the solo piano version. I had never heard this version of the piece before and the performance by Paul Bisaccia was in a word... outstanding! It was well worth the ticket price just to hear that popular piece performed live in the S' Wonderful acoustics of our church. It really is a great venue for live music. I have to say though that every time I hear Rhapsody in Blue I think of those damed American Airlines’ commercials. Don't you just hate when advertising co-ops great music? I know I do. Photography wise I shot about five images before the head of our church’s music program was whispering in my ear, “our contract forbids photography, video or recording of any kind.”
"Okay, no problem,” I replied and put my camera away (BTW, it’s digital and it doesn’t make noise). They could have made an announcement before the concert and had that written on the tickets or fliers, but nooooo. With the concert over I went home to watch my home team Baltimore Ravens beat up on the Arizona Prairie Chickens in a 26 to 18 victory. While watching the game I was shocked to see the Prairie Chicken’s stadium practically empty as early as the second quarter. It looked like the stadium wasn’t even a third full. How embarrassing and sad that is for the Prairie Chickens not to have the support of fans. Then I caught the end of the Denver/Pittsburgh game and got to see the hated Steelers LOOSE!! The Steelers tried to ice Denver kicker Jason Elam by calling timeout, but they found out how hard it is to freeze a cool customer. Elam drilled a last-second, 47-yard field goal give Denver a 17-14 win. It was much more exciting than the Raven's win. I love to see Pittsburgh loose. I hate those guys so much. This leaves the Ravens alone in first in our division. The rest of the pleasant evening was spent alone with Jenne and another weekend came to a close.

When I hear "Rhapsody in Blue" I think of the opening of Woody Allen's Manhattan. I guess I don't watch enough TV...

I don't watch much TV anymore because there are so many commercials and many of them use the music I love. Those American Airlines commercials haven't run in something like 7 or 8 years and it's till so ingrained in my head. I don't want to hear my favorite songs and think of some F&%$#@& product. I know that's just what the advertisers want and that's one of the many reasons why I hate them.

Will-Just got back from another Ravens road trip. I was there in the empty stadium! It was great! You could hear the players calling plays from the upper deck and hear the hits. 98 degrees, sunny and all access around the stadium. It kind of reminded me of the Colts days (circa 81/82). Ask Assman about the Colts. Wow, you want a great canvas for your work-head out to Tempe, AZ and work your way up to Sedona. Bag the Grand Canyon-that is great for aerial shots. Carry on! Go Ravens! No wine and cheese in AZ, just college scene, tequila and tacos! Yeah Rosalita....
