Star Spangled Banner

Today I went to Fort McHenry in Baltimore, MD with my friend and fellow photographer, Tom Perry. Weather conditions were gorgeous and we had a great time shooting the fort, its many cannons and the waterfront. I also shot several images in the surrounding industrial area. I am so very pleased with all of the forty plus images I shot today. It was one of those photo days that wherever I looked there were photo ops practically yelling, “TAKE ME!” There were abstracts and scenic images everywhere. It was overdosing on imagery. Here is a small selection of images from the fort. I will post other images throughout the week. I'm not going to write more because I am going to let the photos do all of the speaking. Enjoy.

Did you darken the sky on this? I think it's fabulously symbolic - the flag flying from an industrial / milatary looking pole alone and somewhat fragile looking against a stormy sky. Looks like a photo for our times.

There was no PhotoShop manipulation of the US Flag image. I shot the image through a circular polarizing filter, I also set the exposure compensation for -1f stop (underexposing). The combination of filter and exposure made the clear blue sky really dark and brought out the shadows in the fluffy white clouds.

I really liked the photos. Cannon Wheels and Rails was my favorite.

Nice flag pic. I was looking up on Saturday (without the polorizing filter) http://www.barndoorfanclub.org/plog/archives/001332.html
Which reminds me, how was Hershey Park with the birthday girl?

I like also how you did some of them in black and white. :) Very powerful. :)

Just a bit of trivia - but that is not the "Start Spangled Banner". It's just a US flag. The SSB is a very specific flag, and for one thing, it has less than 50 stars.
