On to Antietam

On To Richmond

In a little while I will be out the door with my friends Clark, Lynn and Tom. We are headed for Antietam National Battlefield and the 141st anniversary guided hike. I am delighted that some of my good friends can join me for this. It will be a day of history, fellowship and photography. The weather is going to be excellent and I know we will have a great time. I went last year when the temperature was in the nineties and I still enjoyed myself and learned a lot more about Lee's first invasion of the north (The Maryland Campaign) and the battle of Antietam. There is no better way to experience the landscape of this hallowed ground than by foot. We're all prepared for the day. The photo gear is all checked out, packed and ready. Lunch is packed and the cooler is full of ice and bottled water. Forward MARCH!

A note on the photograph title. The above photo was entered in one of the BCC monthly competitions in the 2002-03 season and was titled as On To Richmond. Many folks know the photograph by this title, so I keep it even though we are off to Antietam. The photograph was taken at the September 2002, 140th Anniversary reenactment of the battle of Antietam.
