Last week in downtown Baltimore, Robert Perry was attacked and beaten by two men in a van as he rode his bicycle down Charles Street. The men hit Robert over the head with a pipe and then slammed him in the head several times with his own bicycle. As a result of his injuries, Robert was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment and an operation to repair broken bones to his face. Robert is the son of my friend and fellow photographer, Tom Perry, whom I know from the Baltimore Camera Club.
Robert's employer, Degroen Grill (Baltimore Brewing Co.), will be holding a fund raiser this afternoon and evening from 4-8PM to help with his medical expenses. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. If you can not make the fund raiser and would still like to help you can contact me directly via email (bottom left of the main page) and I will let you know where you can send a donation.
OMG that's aweful!! Is he going to be ok? What kind of crazy sick idiots would do something like that - did they catch them?! God! Baltimore! so much for my home...
Posted by: Lynn on August 30, 2003 06:37 PMThanks Will& Jenne for posting the message about the fund raiser for my son Rob.
The fun raiser was a big success. Although it was suppose to end at 8:00pm, the crowd was still there when we left at 11:30. In attendance were alot of his current friends, and old friends from his past. Also many people that we didn't know but they wanted to contribute.
It just goes to show that there are alot of people in Baltimore that still care.
Rob is coming along fine and the operation was succeessfull. Tomorrow we go to get the Staples and stitches out.
We would like to thank everyone for their help and prayers during this time.

ps: Lynn....no they haven't caught the bums & because the tag number didn't turn up anything, it looks like they won't......unless someone comes forward with more info.......thanks for your concern and "We" still "believe" in Baltimore.
Will,
Let me know how to send a few bucks. Paypal? As a cyclist I don't know how close I've come to having this sort of thing happen to me. Perhaps if I had read your blog Saturday night, I might have reacted differently Sunday morning: http://www.barndoorfanclub.org/rant/archives/001245.html
Tom,
Glad to hear Robert will be fine. I hope he will go back to cycling. I don't know what I would do.
Brian, thanks for your interest. Rob is doing fine and will NEVER GIVE UP CYCLING. He use to be a bike messenger in Baltimore city. Everyone in our family is into cycling and this will not change our attitudes about riding.
If you would like to donate just send a check maked out to Robert Perry and mail it to:
