Ahh Saturday morning and I slept in late. Of course I stayed up late Friday night playing Play Station 2 games and drinking Chinese beer. There was a time not so long ago that you wouldn't catch me playing a console video game. No way, no how. I was strictly a PC gamer. The console system was below me. My thought was that seriously fun and engaging gaming was done on a PC. No console could match the PC. This is how it was for fifteen plus years for me. What caused the change? Constant upgrades, PC crashes, no new inovations in games and money. I simply can not and will not keep shelling out money on PC upgrades every year. Video cards are the biggest culprit, followed by the processor, mother boards (which should be called mother fucker boards) and memory. It's nuts. Put on top of that that there has been nothing really new in PC games over the past four years except new and improved graphics on the same tired old games and we are talking wasteland. The only logical way to go was the console system and it's been a good choice. You simply can not beat a console for sports and arcade style games. However the console does lack when it comes to serious simulations such as combat flight sims and game controllers. For some games (first person shooters) I prefer a keyboard/mouse combo and for others a joystick and foot pedals are a must (flight sims). My PS2 has two controller ports and two USB ports so I ask, "where's the variety of controllers? Where are the joysticks?" I'm sorry, but a flight game is NOT a flight game without a joystck or flight yoke. A flight sim looses its immersive appeal using the standard Sony Dual Shock controller. At present it's okay that there is no joystick and foot pedals because there's no real flight sim for the consoles anyway. Well the Dual Shock serves me well for what I am playing right now, which is Lord of the Rings The Two Towers, Madden Football and WAR of the Monsters. All awesome games. Well if you'll excuse me I need to get back to crushing Tokyo. OH NO, THERE GOES TOKYO! GO, GO GODZILLA!

Posted by: Joe Momma on January 28, 2003 04:24 PMA jostick is a joYstick without the Y. The Y stands for YOMAMA and we leave that off for savings.
